Not long to go until eating chocolate for breakfast isn’t frowned upon. Are you preparing for your Easter feast with the family? Well, we have some tips on how you can reduce energy during the cooking and preparation stage.

No Peeking

If you can, avoid opening the oven door between the cooking duration. Opening the door releases heat, which can result in your food taking longer to cook as the temperature attempts to rise again.

Turn Off The Oven Just Before

If you have an electric oven, these retain heat for a short period of time after they’ve been switched off. So, turning off your oven a few minutes before the food is fully cooked may be an option you consider on Easter this year.

Lids On

To keep your hob clean and to reduce any wasted energy, a good tip to remember is to keep lids on your pans whilst cooking. This can be in regard to cooking pasta, boiling potatoes and simmerring. Speaking of boiling water, to reduce the amount of cooking time, boil the kettle and place this water in the pan. This will also save some energy as well as time!

Use A Microwave

For smaller portions and foods that don’t take long to cook, opt for using a microwave! Not only will this reduce the amount of energy being used in comparison to an oven, but your food will be cooked quicker too.

Slow Cooker

To reduce stress and running around the kitchen cooking, having to keep an eye on several different things cooking at once, you may want to turn to a slow cooker this Easter. You can throw together meat, potatoes and vegetables at one time. Come back in a couple hours and voila!

Defrost

To reduce the length of time your food takes to cook, remember to defrost the foods you can  before sending them in for cooking. You can also defrost them in the refrigerator overnight too, or place them out for a couple hours before you intend on cooking them.

Keep Cool

After enjoying the delicious food, it’s important to ensure that any food going in the refrigerator is cooled down. The refrigerator will have to work harder to keep the food cool if it’s still warm. Now, sit back, relax and enjoy the dozens of chocolate Easter eggs this bank holiday!
